How do I get my dog used to being home alone?

Do it gradually

Taming loneliness, regardless of the dog’s age, you should start with sessions lasting up to a few minutes, during which we do not leave the apartment, but we disappear the dog from sight, for example, going to the next room. If the dog is comfortable with this exercise, the time of absence should be extended without rushing. The next step is to go outside the door of the house, but not for more than a few minutes. Then, the exercise should be carried out at different times so that the dog does not associate a specific time with loneliness.

First, a decent walk

If we want the dog to be home alone not to be bored and not frustrated, we need to provide him with the right dose of activity. Before leaving the house, especially for a long time, it is good to tire the pooch properly. It is best to go for a long walk with your dog, where he will be intensely fun and run out, and will provide the dog with a large amount of stimulation and various stimuli. After returning home, there will be a greater chance that a tired dog will go to sleep for a few hours and will not have time to miss us, much less to mischief.

Exercise regularly

Your leaving the apartment, but also returning to it, should become a normal situation for the four-legged friend. The less emotions in us, the calmer the pet. Try not to draw the dog’s attention to the activities related to the exit each time. Put on your jacket and shoes, then take them off and stay home. After some time, this should not arouse any undesirable excitement in the dog. When you arrive, don’t say hello to the dog right away. You don’t have to hug him, caress him tenderly and show how much you missed him. Wait a moment in a neutral atmosphere, pet the dog and go for the long-awaited walk with him.
